Weather: Overcast with long sunny spells. 17oC at 2.00 pm

Around Woodland

Railway to the fells? The level crossing at Dunnerholme with the Scafells to the left and the Coniston fells to the right.

Road to the fells? The Coniston fells from the Heathwaite Fell road.

Woodland church and daisies.

The postbox at Woodland - A.Wainwright, from the Outlying fells book 'The road to the north forks in 350 yards beyond a postbox (where the author posted his 1972-3 tax return)...'. It's famous that box! Incidentally, that is the postbox where this author posted his 2002-3 tax return too!

Formerly a railway to the fells - Woodland Station, now a private residence, on the long defunct Broughton to Coniston railway line.

...and the old level crossing, no tracks through the gates now. Today's walk up to Great Burney is on the horizon.
